A Day of Christmas Joy

“Best way to spread Christmas Cheer is singing loud for all to hear!” ~Buddy the Elf

I relate to several characters in movies and television shows, but if we just narrowed it down to holiday movies, then I would definitely relate to Buddy the Elf the most! Between the smiling personality, the constant love for hugs, and of course the year round Christmas spirit, I have Buddy the Elf written all over me.

As you may or may not know, I work at a news station with my boyfriend. In the news world it is extremely uncommon to have a 9 to 5, Monday to Friday job with the weekends off. This means our shift is from 3pm to midnight, and my “weekend” is Tuesday/Wednesday and my boyfriend’s weekend is Thursday/Friday. We never have days off together because of our wacky shifts, so we have to create days with those crazy adult benefit things they like to call “vacation days.” I feel so grown up every time I say it!

We had a lovely day off recently, where we got to celebrate several different Christmasy things all at once. The boyfriend told me I was to pick what we got to do on our day off together! I, of course being the Buddy the Elf that I am, immediately started quoting the movie…”I planned out our whole day. First we make snow angels for two hours, and then we’ll go ice skating, and then we’ll eat a whole roll of Tollhouse Cookie Dough as fast as we can, and then to finish, we’ll snuggle.” He laughed, kissed me, and said as you wish! He’s a keeper!

We did not have a Buddy the Elf day, but we did have a Sami the Elf day!

Our first stop was The Canning House, where they make amazing bagel sandwiches and fancy coffees! I ordered a breakfast bagel sandwich with an Iced Banana Macchiato and the boyfriend ordered a breakfast burrito with a side of their delicious fries! Mmmmm….I can still taste them!

Next stop was shopping for our very first joint Christmas gift! I can’t say too much about this stop because you never know who may be reading this…don’t want to spoil the awesome present we got for someone this Christmas! All I can say is that it’s “PRETTY PRETTY PRETTY GOOD!”

Of course in our shopping travels, we HAD to pick up a gingerbread house that says easy on the packaging, but we all know two well educated twenty year olds were never going to figure it out. I personally think it turned out minimalistic and cute, but my father thought otherwise, and made several comments that pointed in a different direction. Overall, it was fun, messy, and a nice bonding moment.

The gingerbread house took a lot out of us, so we needed to refuel with some napping and snuggling by the warm YouTube fireplace with the loveliest of Christmas tunes. When our alarm went off, it was finally time for us to take a trip down to Nay Aug to see the lights!! I see the lights every single year! Last year the boyfriend and I went to see different lights at a golf course in Tunkhannock, which was much much further away! Both gorgeous and both magical in every way!

Last step of the night was pizza and pictures by the tree! I am a sucker for matching PJs! Lucky for me, the boyfriend loves me so much that he agreed to match with me! We put our pajama pants on and made our way to the Christmas tree. I thought the hardest part was going to be getting the boyfriend to wear the pajamas, but boy was I wrong…the hardest part was getting my father to take a nice photograph. He blinded himself with the flash, my mother, and even the cat. It was a big event that ended up creating the cutest photos of the boyfriend and I. (Thanks, Dad!!)

I couldn’t have asked for a better day off! I look forward to many more days filled with magical moments like this!

Christmasy and Blessed
