Holiday Gift Guide 2021
The most wonderful time of the year is approaching quicker this year than in the past, so it seems. December is my most favorite month with the anticipation of Santa, the secrecy of present giving, the baking of warm and gooey cookies, and oh such pretty lights! I love it all!! I especially love finding the perfect present for my family and friends.
Nowadays it seems as though there is a GIFT GUIDE for everyone: best gifts for dad, mom, sister, mother-in-law, grandmother, someone who has everything, the nerd in your life, the princess in your life, the nurse, the teacher, the boss, college students, etc., etc. However, I seem to find very few gift guides for people like me that have a career in the creative field. We don’t want to leave our friends and relatives hanging when it comes to figuring out what gifts to buy for us fellow creative people!
Here is a variety of gifts at different budgets for your favorite creative person this holiday season:
1. Temperature Control Smart Mug - Any creative who thinks they could drink a coffee/tea to its completion without having to reheat it at least once is crazy. Our brains are either so focused on our writing, drawing, designing, editing, etc. that we forget we even made a cup OR we are so distracted by the influx of new ideas that we lose our cup and find it later iced cold. A mug that keeps our coffee warm is something every creative person will get plenty of use out of!
2. Air Tag - as I mentioned before, creative people aren’t always super focused on anything other than their current project. We would lose our heads if they weren’t attached. This is where the Air Tag comes into play! It is a tracking device that you can put in your camera bag or slip on your keyring with all your flash drives and sd cards attached to it. I know as a photographer I am going to different photo shoots and events where I throw my camera bag and keys on the ground, and get to work! I can’t tell you how many times I have lost my keys at an event in the grass. If I had this Air Tag life would have been so much easier!
3. Waterproof Writing Pad for the Shower - Our brains never stop, even in the shower. There is something about the water and the steam that just helps my brain go into idea overload. I end up jumping out of the shower soaking wet trying to find my phone to type myself a note, almost injuring myself before my “brilliant” thought fades away. My sister, the amazing gal that she is, purchased me one of these waterproof pads, and it has definitely kept me from a lot of, almost, slips.
4. Dot Grid Notebook - Whether it be a moleskine brand or dollar store knock off, a dot grid notebook always comes in handy when sketching out ideas for my next project. I think faster than I write, so a blank sheet of paper is almost illegible by the end of my thought. The grid helps me keep focus and legibility.
5. Fidget Cube - I am antsy, and I have a very hard time sitting still. I always feel like I need to do something with my hands. It is part of my creative process. I can’t help it, and most of the time do not even realize I am doing so. I highly suggest a fidget cube for those like me. It has several different movements, textures, and sounds to help with the restless hand tapping that for some reason drives everyone else around us nuts.
6. Tech Organizer Pouch - We are in the days of technology, lots of technology. This means chords, chargers, headphones, wall mounts, SD cards, flash drives, cables, hard drives, etc., etc. Creatives know they have all this “stuff,” and they know they need a safe place for it. Be the one who gives them a very practical and very much needed tech organizer pouch. They can never have too much! More technology is always around the corner, it seems!
7. Mini Desk Vacuum Cleaner - Chances are your creative person does a lot of work at their desk and probably creates a lot of crumbs, eraser marks, paper scraps, etc. This vacuum will save them so much time and effort that could be going towards their next big project.
8. Exercise Pedal - Remember the antsy hands, I discussed earlier…well the feet aren’t too settled either! An exercise pedal is perfect for anyone that sits for long periods of time and feels the constant need to shake their leg while working. It will even help with stress and anxiety, in my opinion, because it gives me the feeling of getting up and moving!
9. Portable Belt Fan - Now before you say no way, that’s ridiculous, hear me out! Creative people can’t be locked up in a room ALL the time. They have to get out every now and then too. For example, a wedding photographer may have to shoot a wedding in the dead of summer when it is a scorching 100 degrees outside. The belt fan will feel AMAZING on them. Or imagine a painter that is inspired by a beautiful sunflower field, they NEED to paint it. The sun is blaring down on them, but the belt fan is cooling them off greatly and they complete the world’s profound painting of their generation!
10. Massagers - We get ourselves in the darndest of positions while shooting with our cameras, drawing our inspirations, editing a video, etc. We kill our backs, necks, and bodies altogether. The creative person in your life needs a massager, any kind of massager, whether it be a hand massager, back massager, neck massager, leg massager, or even a scalp massager. They want it, and they desperately need it.
I hope I could be of some assistance in your gift buying this year with a few unique options for that special creative in your life. Have a wonderful holiday season!
Merry and Bright,
~Samantha Faith
